Project: Ford Escort RS Turbo MKIV - Iain S
|
Rather than being just another customer project, this car actually belonged to Iain, one of our former installers. Iain`s plans for the car were to keep it subtle and simple, and to keep the interior looking as near to standard as he could, whilst doing something a little radical under the rear shelf. The 1990 Ford Escort that he came across, was in very good condition initially, and came with the highly desireable Recaro Leather interior. It is very important when doing a project on this scale, to ensure that you have a good base to start with.

Sorting Out the Bodywork
Being the perfectionist that he is, one or two bodywork modifications were carried out. The door locks were removed and the rear lock was converted to electronic solenoid operation. All of the original badges were removed, with the recess panels filled and painted.

Paintwork
Not wanting to be outdone by the award winning paintwork on the Boss`s car, Iain had the car resprayed in the original base colour, but added a "blue flip" that effectively changes colour as you see it
in different light levels.
The Effect was Stunning!

Front Doors
A set of door pods were fabricated from fibreglass, and then trimmed in black to complement the rare Recaro striped trim within the car.
The Sound comes courtesy of a Focal 6" Component set.

|
Front Box
A twin box was designed to take up as little boot space as possible and yet house two 12" Kenwood Subs.
|
|
And The Rear Boxes
It took some very serious calculations to end up with a pair of boxes that were not only this small, but would also allow the chosen Kenwood speakers to give maximum performance.
Mathematics actually plays a big part in designing Car Audio systems.

The Electronics
Some of the detailing on this sytem included the Chrome plating of the Alpine CD Changer and Ai-NET Processor. After both of the Kenwood Amplifiers have been Anodised in blue, the surface of the cooling fins will then be machined off, to leave behind a set of highly polished silver stripes.

Mirror Image
Mirrored surfaces were cut and shaped to fit the boxes before being framed by M.D.F. panels which were then fabricated in trimmed in a rather striking purple vinyl.
