DND Services Ltd :: Project: Volkswagen Golf 1998 - Gary H.

Project: Volkswagen Golf 1998 - Gary H.

Gary`s Golf is very well known on the "Sound Off" scene, as indeed is Gary himself, being one of the judges !! Words cannot truly describe the sound of this Car, except maybe one - Perfect !

When you get to this level of install, a minor adjustment means only one thing - Major alterations and fabrication of new panels !

Off - Axis

The speaker mounting angle has been slightly altered, by the use of some speaker rings formed out of M.D.F.

This is to prevent "phase" problems around the centre console. The sound from two speakers facing each other, can actually cancel each other out.

What is it?

It`s the trim panel from the front "A" post round the Windscreen.

The pipe will be sunk into the trim panel, blended in with filler, and then covered with grey flock, to match the original panels.

This will then house the Focal Tweeters, at the desired angle.

Deception !

What? A Sound Off car with an empty boot?

Look Again, Look very carefully . . . . .

That spare wheel, has no tyre, because it is a Sub Box !

The box was the creation of Alan Burton - (need we say more !) and the Grille was machined to match the alloys on the car.

Spotted anything else yet?

Amplifier

Did you spot where the Amplifier lives?

Recessed in a panel just to the left of the Sub Box, Lives a tiny amplifier, a Capacitor and some fuses.

Spotted anything else yet?

V.C.R.

I bet that you did not spot this one !

Remember the early camcorders where the tape mechanism was slung over your shoulders?

You do? (You`re showing your age now !)

Well, one has been crafted into the side panel.

Spotted anything else yet?

Spoilt for Choice

Not content with one changer, Gary has fitted three, including an imported Japanese Alpine Minidisc Changer.

You can just make out the 4" monitor top left.

All this equipment has been fitted into a small car, and yet the boot still looks as Volkswagen intended it.

Front End

The system is controlled by an Alpine CVA-1000. When the ignition is turned off, the screen will electronically conceal itself back into the dashboard.

We are all used to this nowadays, but back in the days of the VCR, this was pure witchcraft, and the stuff of fantasy!

Gary H.

If you ever go to see a "Sound-Off" competition, Make a point of not only looking for this car, but try to find Gary, and ask him for a Demo.

You will be mighty impressed.
